New Zealand
New Zealand offers the opportunity to obtain a job as a doctor in a
modern health system whilst still having access to an enviable quality
of life.
Many International Medical Graduates (IMG) would like to work in
New Zealand as they see it as a destination of choice in the global
medical arena. However, if you are a non-resident and are not qualified
to gain medical registration, you might find it very difficult to cope
with the red tape involved in working in New Zealand for one or two
years or longer. This is where Medacs Australia comes in!
Our staff is trained to deal with the various government and medical
authorities to assist you through the complex process involved in
ensuring you are accepted to work in New Zealand.
There are a series of steps you will need to go through before you
get a job as a doctor in New Zealand. Medacs Australia is here to
assist you every step of the way to obtain a suitable position and gain
entry into New Zealand.
Step 1: Registering with Medacs and Obtaining a Position
First of all, you will need to
register with us
so we can find you a suitable position. Initially we will just require
a copy of your current CV. If you are successful in obtaining a job,
the facility may ask that you first complete an application form and/or
complete a criminal history check form. We will provide you with the
relevant documentation, followed by a letter of appointment from the
facility. At this point you will be given a member password and login
to our tracking website????
Step 2: Medical Registration
The first stage of gaining registration as a doctor with the Medical
Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) is to obtain registration 'approval in
principal'. The application process is clearly outlined on the MCNZ
website and has a 'self assessment tool' to determine your eligibility
and guide you to the relevant application form and checklist which you
will need to complete.
Medacs Australia will step you through the above process and submit
your application to the MCNZ, along with supporting documentation which
we will obtain from your prospective employer.
Once in New Zealand, you will need to meet with a delegate from the
Medical Council to present original/certified copies of your
certificates and qualifications prior to starting work.
Step 3: Sponsorship & Visa Application
To work in New Zealand, you will need a valid work visa and a current
work permit. The visa process can take around 3 weeks to complete,
however this will largely depend on where you are applying from.
Medacs Australia will guide you through this process and provide you with the relevant information and application form.
Step 4: Arriving in New Zealand
During the whole process Medacs Australia will work closely with you
and the facility to ensure that you and your family are able to come to
New Zealand within the timeframe required by the hospital. Each
facility has a different policy in regards to the reimbursement of
relocation expenses. Please check with Medacs Australia’s Consultants
regarding the specific details.
